MotoGP Le Mans Preview 2017

by motorscycle.com
Fresh off his convincing win in Jerez, Repsol Honda mighty mite Dani Pedrosa has been reinstated in The Alien Club, looking relaxed, comfortable and fast on his RC213V. For the first time in five years, his name is coming up in conversations about who might take the 2017 title. Given his age, his panoply of surgical scars and generally lousy karma, I make him a longshot for the championship. But other than a few Americans with pathologically long memories, there are a number of fans who wouldn’t mind seeing Dani Pedrosa win a premier class title. Embed from Getty Images [...]

MotoGP Jerez 2017 Results

by motorscycle.com
Repsol Honda #2 Dani Pedrosa, looking like the 2012 version of himself, won today’s Spanish Grand Prix, leading wire to wire for his first win since Misano last year. Teammate and defending champion Marc Marquez gave chase for most of the race, but never seemed to have quite enough to mount a serious challenge to Pedrosa on one of those days… Underdog Jorge Lorenzo claimed third step on the podium in a credible performance on the factory Ducati, his first podium in red which, he said afterwards, felt like a win. When the smoke cleared, the 2017 race had tightened [...]

Wretched Excess: R6 And Hayabusa-Powered Lawnmowers!

by motorscycle.com
This just in from the Too Much Of Everything Is Just Enough Department: Nothing exceeds like excess! And we found two great examples. First, we give you excess in the form of a R6-powered lawnmower: Yeah, we know the video quality sucks, but did you notice the space between the ground and the front tires? Next, we bring you excessive excess, a Hayabusa-powered lawnmower: At least this guy was smart enough to outfit the mower with a wheelie bar!

The American Iron Road Tour

by motorscycle.com
There are a lot of reasons that we moto journos get into this gig. It goes without saying that we all share a passion for the sport of motorcycling, but it’s about more than just the opportunity to ride and test motorcycles and gear for a living, see things that we might not otherwise see, enjoy memorable experiences and then tell stories about them. It’s also about meeting great people from all walks of life who share our passion for this amazing sport. https://youtu.be/wZxVVM5qbp8  That’s probably the best way to describe our recent whirlwind Motorcycle.com American Iron Tour, where Motorcycle.com [...]

2017 Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin Vs. KTM 1090 Adventure R

by motorscycle.com
Since its introduction, the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin hasn’t stopped drawing comparisons to some of the best off-road-oriented Adventure-Tourers in the category, an honor it comes by honestly seeing as it’s such a great motorcycle. The Africa Twin’s surprisingly dirt-worthy performance, its fairly light weight, simplicity and relatively economical $13,299 MSRP (for the manual 6-speed model) have made it a sales success. Honda seems to have remembered what a lot of other OEMs have forgotten, namely that complexity and weight can be the enemy. https://youtu.be/RzLrOHPx4oc Well, apparently KTM got the message, because for 2017 the Austrian dirtbike giant has released [...]

Honda Neowing Leaning Three-Wheeler Hybrid Concept Revealed

by motorscycle.com
Honda appears to be following Yamaha into the leaning three-wheeler segment, revealing a radical new concept model for the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. Whereas Yamaha’s first leaning trike, the Tricity, is a commuter-friendly scooter, Honda is taking a much more aggressive approach with its Neowing concept. According to Honda, the Neowing sports an original linkage mechanism for its front wheels. We’ve previously written about Honda patenting leaning three-wheeler technology which appears to be in play here. This distinction is important, as Piaggio has filed a patent infringement suit against Yamaha for the Tricity concept’s leaning mechanism, and Honda no doubt [...]

Piaggio Files Patent Infringement Complaint Against Yamaha, Peugeot

by motorscycle.com
Piaggio has filed complaints with Italian courts alleging Yamaha and Peugeot infringed on the company’s idea for leaning three-wheeled scooters. The legal complaint, filed with the court of Milan, alleges the Yamaha Tricity and Peugeot Metropolis copied Piaggio’s designs and patents used for the MP3. Piaggio seeks a hold on sales and withdrawal from market as well as monetary damages. The Piaggio MP3 was first brought to market in 2006, introducing the company’s parallelogram suspension system which allows scooters to lean into corners like a two-wheeler. Peugeot introduced its Metropolis in 2012 while Yamaha debuted the Tricity at year later. [...]

Yamaha PES2 And PED2 Electric Concepts To Debut In Tokyo

by motorscycle.com
Two years ago, Yamaha revealed a couple of sweet-looking electric prototypes at the Tokyo Motor Show, called the PES1 and the PED1. As the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show approaches, Yamaha announced it will present two new follow-up concepts called, naturally, the PES2 and PED2. The PED2 (Passion Electric Dirt) and PES2 (Passion Electric Street) share a monocoque frame that also houses the Yamaha Smart Power Module power unit. Yamaha did not release any specific technical information except to say the two models will offer performance equivalent to a gas-powered motorcycle in the 50cc-125cc range. As with the original concepts, the PES2 [...]

Yamaha Resonator125 Concept A Retro Bike For Beginners

by motorscycle.com
Yamaha announced a new 125cc concept designed for new riders looking for a blend of the future and the past. Set to debut Oct. 29 at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, the Resonator125 concept shares similar styling to the SR400 but in an even smaller package. The name “Resonator” suggests a connection to Yamaha’s roots as a musical instrument maker. The chrome fuel tank and tail are contrasted by wood grain panels similar to the texture of acoustic guitars while engravings on the fuel tank cap, exhaust and various other parts were done using a method typically used on brass [...]
